BardNotes

In the 1980s, armed with only a BBC Micro, a Music AMPLE 5000 synthesizer and inspired by Musique Concrète, Minimalism, Aleatory / Algorithmic composition and early offerings from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Bardnotes began to compose electronic / avant-garde / experimental music.

In addition to traditional composition techniques Bardnotes integrates programming into the creative process, utilizing ABC music notation to produce, shape and manipulate musical events. By these means Bardnotes generates unusual harmonic structures, mathematically rearranges melodies, merges diverse melodic lines, derives rhythms from speech and assigns musical events to numeric sequences thereby creating music that loops, evolves, unfolds and wobbles about in often surprising ways.

While the tools have evolved from vintage hardware to digital audio workstations, from dice to code, the objective remains unchanged: Appropriate and manipulate traditional, natural and technical sounds in order to produce interesting musical offerings.
